Nyene Drakpa Rinchen (nye gnas grags pa rin chen) was a disciple of Chennga Drakpa Jungne (spyan snga grags pa 'byung gnas, 1175-1255), the fourth throne holder of Drigung Til Monastery ('bri gung mthil).
Drakpa Rinchen compiled the notes he took during the teachings he received into several texts, including Essential Teachings on the Dispelling of Obstacles (zhal gdams gegs sel snying po bcud bsdus). The biography of Shangpa Nyenton (shangs pa gnyan ston) mentions that the instructions found in that text are ineffective for removing obstacles, but Drigung sources counter that in such an event the fault lies with the practitioner, not the instructions.
He is also known for his Commentary on the Wish Fulfilling Jewel (tsin dha ma ni'i 'grel pa) which he composed in a forest hermitage called Gyeldang Pel (rgyal ldang dpal).
Drakpa Rinchen's main sponsors included the three sons of Tri Darma (khri dar ma), the King of Yarlung (yar lung), who were named Tri Tsukde (khri gtsug lde), Neljortsukde (rnal sbyor gtsug lde) and Monlam Zhi (smon lam bzhi).
