The Treasury of Lives

Lama Jangchub Sengge (bla ma byang chub seng ge) was a thirteenth century Sakya master. The Gyude Kuntu (rgyud sde kun 'tus) lists him in a lineage of the Dākārnava Tantra, which is depicted in the painting from which the image here is drawn. He received it from Lama Ngawang Drakpa (bla ma ngag dbang grags pa) and passed it on to Sabzang Pakpa Zhonnu Lodro (sa bzang 'phags pa gzhon nu blo gros, 1358-1412). According to the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center, among his students was the founder of the eastern Tibetan Jonang monastery Dzamtang ('dzam thang), Rinchen Pel (rin chen dpal, 1350-1435).

Alexander Gardner is Director and Chief Editor of the Treasury of Lives. He completed his PhD in Buddhist Studies at the University of Michigan in 2007. He is the author of The Life of Jamgon Kongtrul The Great.
