The Treasury of Lives

An important Geluk incarnation line in Amdo with seats at Lamo DechenLabrang Tashikyil and Ditsa monasteries. The line dates from the mid-17th century. Ditsa was founded in 1903 by the Fourth Amdo Zhamar Gendun Tendzin Gyatso. The Sixth Amdo Zhamar, Lobzang Jigme Tendzin Gyatso, was forced to spend much of his short life herding cattle due to the Cultural Revolution.

Biographies

Ngawang Trinle, the First Amdo Zhamar, was born in Amdo and trained at Gomang college of Drepung monastic university. After returning to Amdo he served as the throne holder at both Labrang Tashikyil and Lamo Dechen.

Ngawang Trinle Pelzang, the Second Amdo Zhamar, was educated at Lamo Dechen Monastery in Amdo. He passed away as a young man.

Ngawang Tendzin Gyatso, the Third Amdo Zhamar, received monastic educated at Lamo Dechen monastery where he later served as the throne holder.

The Fourth Amdo Zhamar Gendun Tendzin Gyatso was a prominent Geluk master in Amdo. He was mainly educated at Lamo Dechen Monastery and Labrang Tashikyil under the Second Arol, Lobzang Lungtok Gyatso and Drungyik Sherab Gyatso. He founded Ditsa Monastery in 1903.

The Fifth Amdo Zharmar Lobzang Shedrub Tendzin Gyatso was educated at Ditsa Monastery and Labrang Tashikyil. He served as abbot of Ditsa for sixteen years, from 1938 until his death in 1952.

The Sixth Amdo Zhamar, Lobzang Jigme Tendzin Gyatso, was forced to spend much of his short life herding cattle, due to the Cultural Revolution. He received some education at Ditsa Monastery, the seat of his lineage, but passed away at the age of thirty-four.
