Tashi Bum (bkra shis 'bum) was the Third Chone Sakyong (co ne sa skyong 03). Born some time in the early fifteenth century, he succeeded his father, the Second Chone Sakyong Tsenpo Pellek (co ne sa skyong 02 btsan pod pal legs, fifteenth century), as ruler of the Chone area in 1457, the fire-ox year of eighth sexagenary cycle. The Chone Kingdom, a semi-independent kingdom in Amdo, was settled by Tashi Bum's grandfather, Changtul (co ne sa skyong 01 spyang thul, b. fourteenth century). The family's clan was the Ga (dga')
Tashi Bum supported his uncle, Rinchen Lhunpo (rin chen lhun po, fourteenth century), in the conversion and administration of Chone Gonchen Ganden Shedrub Ling (co ne dgon chen dga' ldan bshad sgrub gling). The monastery, originally Sakya, grew to become one of the major centers of Geluk activity in Amdo.
Tashi Bum had two sons. As per tradition, his elder son, Gakye (dga' skyes, fifteenth century) succeeded him to become the Fourth Chone Sakyong.
