Soon after Tāranātha had passed the master Drogge Kunga Pelzang ('brog ge kun dga' dpal bzang, 1629-1686) traveled from Amdo to the Jomonang valley in central Tibet, received teachings from Trinle Wangmo and other close disciples of Tāranātha, and returned home to establish Drogge Monastery ('brog ge dgon pa) in Ngawa (rnga ba), one of the early major Jonang monasteries in Amdo.11 Some fifteen years later, in the spring of 1657, in her seventy-second year of life, while residing at the Great Mountain Hermitage in the Jomonang valley, she was visited by Ngawang Lodro Namgyel (ngag dbang blo gros rnam rgyal, 1618-1683), a Jonangpa lineage-holder who was regarded as a reincarnation of Tāranātha's mother.12 Lodro Namgyel had come to her seeking advice on a series of visions that communicated to him the need to travel eastward ...
