Takten Puntsok Ling was established by the Jonang master Tāranātha with support from kings of Tsang in 1619. Built on the site of a Jonang hermitage that was first developed in the thirteenth century by Kunpangpa Tukje Tsondru, it was converted to Geluk in 1635.
