Gomang, the earliest of Drepung Monastery's colleges, was established in the early fifteenth century by Drakpa Rinchen, a disciple of Drepung founder Jamyang Choje Tashi Pelden. It quickly grew into one of the largest colleges, ultimately absorbing the Vinaya college.
