Zhangtsun Dorje Wozer (zhang btsun rdo rje 'od zer) was born in Darlung (dar lung) in Tsang, in 1122, the water-tiger year of the twelfth sexagenary cycle. He is said to have been the reincarnation of Langri Tangpa Dorje Sengge (glang ri thang pa rdo rje seng ge, 1054-1123), although it is not clear whether this was asserted during his lifetime.
He extensively studied the Kadam traditional texts under the guidance of Dumton Lodro Drakpa (gtum ston blo gros grags pa, 1106-1166) and his disciple, Doton Sherab Drakpa (rdo ston shes rab grags pa, 1127-1185), and he participated in their establishment of Nartang Monastery.
In 1185, at the age of sixty-three, he was enthroned as the third abbot of Nartang and served for about eight years. He passed the abbacy to his disciple Doton Dutsi Drakpa (gro ston bdud rtsi grags pa, 1153-1232) in 1193.
He passed away the following year, at the age of seventy-two. His relic stupa was installed at the temple at Nartang named Ganden Dechen Tarpa Ling (dga' ldan bde chen thar pa gling).
