The Treasury of Lives



Liyul Chogyel (li yul chos rgyal) is said to have been born in 1509, the earth-snake year of the ninth sexagenary cycle, to a Buddhist king of Liyul (li yul), a mythical kingdom variously placed in India or Central Asia. According to the story, as youth he received esoteric and exoteric teachings and passed away in 1526, the fire-dog year of ninth sexagenary cycle, at the age twenty-eight.

Sonam Dorje is an independent scholar based in Amdo, he completed his Ph.D. in Dunhuang Tibetan Literature Study at Northwest Minzu University in Lanzhou, China
