Zangchen Gon, located in southern Tibet, was founded as a Nyingma monastery around the 12th century by Sonam Jungne. It was later converted to Kadam. Vinaya master and Lamrim lineage holder Tsonawa Sherab Zangpo began his studies at Zangchen; during his time there it became an active center for Vinaya studies.
