Tashi Tongmon was established for the Third Drukchen, Jamyang Chodrak, in the late fifteenth century. It was built after Jamyang Chodrak, a member of the Ja clan rather than the Gya clan, which controlled Ralung, was not permitted to assume control of Ralung.
