The Rok clan dates to the early dissemination of the Buddhist teachings in Tibet, the so-called Tenpa Ngadar (bstan pa snga dar). The first major figure of this clan was Rok Namkha Yeshe (rog nam mkha' ye shes), one of two brothers who were the recipient of the entire lineage of a certain Gyelwa Tenne (rgyal ba rten ne), a figure of some confusion in the Blue Annals. Longchenpa's father traced his ancestry back to Yeshe Wangpo Rung of the Rok clan.
