Riwo Choling, a Geluk monastery located near Nedong in the Yarlung Valley, was founded in the fifteenth century by Choje Dondrub Pel, a student of Tsongkhapa. In recent times the site consists largely of ruins. The monks of Riwo Choling act as caretakers of the nearby Yumbu Lagang Palace. In addition, Lhasa's Trode Khangsar is also maintained by monks from Riwo Choling.
