The Treasury of Lives

Jose Cabezon

Pabongkha is one of the largest of the hermitages above Sera Monastery north of Lhasa. In the seventh century it was the site of a fort, and later, during the initial spread of Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century, a small monastery. During the twelfth century it was taken over by the Kadam tradition, and in the fourteenth century Tsongkhapa resided there.
