
Namgyal Institute of Tibetology in Gangtok was established in 1958 by the King of Sikkim, Tashi Namgyal (1893 – 1963). It promotes research on the religion, culture, language, art and history of the people of the Tibetan cultural area, which includes Sikkim. The institute contains a library and a museum as well. Since 1964, the Namgyal Institute has published the Bulletin of Tibetology.
