Albrecht Schulze
Datsen, also known as Serlung Gonpa, is a Geluk monastery in the Sokwo region of Amdo. Founded in 1924, it was initially established as a monastic encampment where monks resided in tents. The Seventh Zhabdrung Karpo led the community and resided there periodically, splitting his time between a number of Amdo monasteries. Datsen grew in size and number, with 180 monks studying in the Philosophical and Kalachakra colleges by the 1950's.
