The Chentsel School was a modern Buddhist educational institution in Shigatse established in 1956 by the Tenth Paṇchen Lama. He initially placed it in the Kunsik Palace where a school named Tse Nyiwo Zimchung had recently closed. The initial name was Nyiwo School. It moved to Kyikyi Nakhar in 1958. Three hundred young men, both lay and monastics, were in the first class. The curriculum, designed to train young men for the modern period, included language instruction in Tibetan, Chinese, and Hindi, and military arts.
