Chamdo Drolma Lhakhang is located in present day Lhorong county in Kham. According to Gyurme Dorje's Footprint Guide, it was established in 1193 by a student of the First Karmapa. Grushke notes that monastery foundations date to the eighteenth century. It was the seat of Akong Rinpoche, the close friend and collaborator of the Eleventh Trungpa Rinpoche
