Built in 1912 in Kalimpong, Bhutan House belongs to the prominent Dorji family of Bhutan. After the house was finished, Raja Urgyen Dorji invited the Thirteenth Dalai Lama, Tubten Gyatso, who was in exile in Kalimpong, to reside there. The Dalai Lama stayed at Bhutan House for three months and he gave the house its Tibetan name, which means The Palace of Unchanging Supreme Joy. Bhutan House is the current residence of Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck, the Royal Grandmother of the Fifth King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck.
