Anja is a Geluk hermitage founded in 1787. At some point it was damaged by a fire. In 1945 it was renovated by the local population. It was considered a branch of Kumbum although according to Stewart Smith's survey of Amdo monasteries, as of 2010 approximately 10 monks from Jyegu Dondrub Ling in Kham have been residing there.
