Lhapu Mokchok was located in the Shang Valley on and eastern branch of the Lhapu river. It was established by Mokchok Rinchen Tsondru in the twelfth century as a Shangpa Kagyu hermitage. It functioned as a nunnery in the twentieth century. The seat of the Mokchok incarnation was based at Nyetang Mokchok outside of Lhasa.
