Upon arriving in India from Tibet, monks of Drepung were temporarily housed with Buddhist monks from all schools and monasteries at Tosam Tardo Ling at Buxa Duar from 1959-1969. The monks were later relocated to South India in 1969, where they reestablished the Drepung Monastery in exile. Modelled after Drepung, one of the three great monasteries in central Tibet, its monastic colleges Loseling and Gomang are attended by thousands of monks.
