Yabzhi Yuthok refers to the family of the Tenth Dalai Lama, Tsultrim Gyatso. Yabzhi status was granted to families of the Dalai Lamas, a tradition beginning with the family of the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kelzang Gyatso. When Lobzang Nyendrak died, his younger son, Kelzang Puntsok, succeeded him as head of the family and inherited his titles. In 1925, he was granted the Yuthok estate in Lhasa, which formerly belonged to the Bumtang family. The family, thus ennobled, became known as Yabzhi Yuthok.
