The Treasury of Lives

The Shey Palace and Monastery is an ancient royal residence of the Namgyel dynasty which reigned over Ladakh from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries. The heart of the whole Shey complex is formed by the main temple, the Tsuklakhang, built in the late 1640s under King Sengge Namgyel. Shey is located just outside of Leh city on a crest overlooking the Indus Valley.
