The Ngok clan is said to have originated during the time of the Pugyel dynasty's 36th king, Dusong Mangpo Je. The Ngok clan, which associated with the Kadampa lineage, founded Sangpu Neutok Monastery. It was Ngok Lekpei Sherab who founded the monastery in 1072 and his nephew Ngok Lotsāwa Loden Sherab who developed it.
