The Drenka clan originated in the Yarlung dynasty period, in the reign of Tibet's fortieth King Mutik Tsenpo. His minister Drenka Yonten was from the Drenka clan. This clan seems to have settled around Penyul in central Tibet. Barompa Darma Wangchuk also belonged to this clan.
