The Denma clan originated in the time of the Yarlung dynasty, during the reign of Tibet's Eighth King Tri Songdetsen. Denma is one of the three lineages of the East, as classified in one fifteenth century text. The place Denma, which must be associated with the lineage, is in Kham.
