The Treasury of Lives

Pema Ledrel Tsel (pad ma las 'brel rtsal) was born in in 1291 Nyenrong Dritang (gnyan rong 'bri thang) into the Nyang clan. He was given the name Rinchen Tsuldor (rin chen tshul rdor), and, when he ordained, Tsultrim Dorje (tshul khrims rdo rje).

When he was sixteen Pema Ledrel Tsel met an old man, apparently an emanation of Padmasambhava, who presented him with a list of the locations of hidden treasures and gave him the prediction that he would discover them. Later, at the age of twenty-one, Rinchen Lingpa (rin chen gling pa) gave him additional inventory lists for other treasures, which the elder treasure revealer had discovered at Dritang Korodrak ('bri thang ko ro brag).

At the age of twenty-three Pema Ledrel Tsel discovered the Heart Essence of the Ḍākinī, or Khandro Nyingtig (mkha' 'gro snying thig) at Danglung Tramodrak (ldang lung khra mo brag) in Dakpo (dwags po). At the same place he also revealed further treasures relating to Yamāntaka and Hayagriva.

According to the legend of the Khandro Nyingtik, King Tri Songdetsen's daughter, Princess Pemasel (pad+ma gsal), died when she was eight years old. Padmasambhava revived her by drawing her consciousness back into her body. Once she regained consciousness, he entrusted her with the instructions and transmission of the Nyingtik as her dharma inheritance. Then she passed away. Padmasambhava assigned Yeshe Tsogyel (ye shes mtsho rgyal) with the concealment of the text as treasure.

Pema Lendrel Tsel practiced these teachings in secret, transmitting them to the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje (karma pa 03 rang byung rdo rje, 1284-1339), Rinchen Lingpa, and Gyelse Lekpa (rgyal sras legs pa, 1290-1365), who served him as a close disciple. He passed away at the age of twenty-five. Longchen Rabjampa Drime Wozer (klong chen rab 'byams pa dri med 'od zer, 1308-1364) was considered his reincarnation.
