At Dzogchen Monastery, Garwang Lerab Lingpa's principal tutor was Khenpo Pema Chopel (mkhan po pad+ma chos dpal, d.u.), with whom he studied many subjects, including the traditional monastic curricular texts on Madhyamaka, Abhisamayālaṃkāra, Vinaya, and Abhidharmakośa.
