The Third Chonyi Gyatso, Pelden Dorje (chos nyid rgya mtsho 03, dpal ldan rdo rje), the reincarnation of Orgyen Jamyang, the Second Chonyi Gyatso (chos nyid rgya mtsho 02 o rgyan 'jam dbyangs, d.u.) was born in the eighteenth century. He was a lineage holder in the terma teachings of Dudul Dorje (bdud 'dul rdo rje, 1615-1672) and Longsel Nyingpo (klong gsal snying po, 1625-1692). Later in life he revealed treasures with titles such as the Life-force Empowerment of Mandarava (dgongs gter man+da ra’i tshe sgrub).

Samten Chhosphel earned his PhD from CIHTS in India where he served as the head of Publication Dept. for 26 years. He has a Master’s degree in Writing and Publishing from Emerson College, Boston. Currently he is an adjunct Assistant Professor at the City University of New York, and Language Associate in Columbia University, NY.
