Jampa Rabten (byams pa rab brtan) was the son of Jikten Wangchuk ('jig rten dbang phyug), the head of the Lhagyari family (lha rgya ri) in the fifth generation. The family claims descent from the Pugyel (spu rygal) emperors of Yarlung (yar klung) through king Namde Osung (gnam lde 'od srungs, b. 842), the son of king Tri Udumtsen (khri ur dum btsan, r. 836-842), also known as Langdarma (glang dar ma), and his younger wife whose name is unknown.
There is very little information about Jampa Rabten. Following the death of their father his brother Yulkhor Wangchuk (yul 'khor dbang phyug, 15th century) became the head of the family in the sixth generation.
There is a reference to Jampa Rabten as King Jampa Rabten (rgyal po byams pa rab brtan) but it is not clear if he ever served as head of the Lhagyari family.
