The Treasury of Lives

Gyurme Sizhi Phuntsok ('gyur med srid zhi phun 'tshogs) was born in 1840. As a child he was recognized as the reincarnation of the Third Simda Dzogchen Tulku, Gyurme Tekchok Tenpa Namgyel (srib mda' rdzogs chen sprul sku 03 'gyur med theg mchog bstan pa rnam rgyal, 1786-1839).

At a very young age, he was sent to Shechen Monastery (zhe chen dgon) where the Fourth Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche (zhe chen rab 'byams 04 gar dbang chos kyi rgyal mtshan, 1811-1862) and the First Shechen Gyeltsab (zhe chen rgyal tshab 01) enthroned him as the Fourth Simda Dzogchen Tulku. He received teachings, transmissions, and, at the age of twenty, full ordination from Shechen Gyeltsab, along with teachings and transmissions.

When he was fifty, tradition holds, he foresaw his own death, and gathered his disciples to give them his final instructions. He passed away soon thereafter. Following his cremation his heart, tongue, and eyes were discovered, unburned. Inside the heart was said to have been a statue of Mañjuśrī in five colors, which was kept as a relic.
