Gyel Lhakhang is an ancient Kadampa monastery in Penyul ('phen yul) in central Tibet. It was founded in 1012 by Zhang Nanam Dorje Wangchuk, a student of Lume. The Fifth Dalai Lama once took refuge here when war broke out in Lhasa in 1636.
