The incarnation line is likely named for Tram Tsopu, a meditation site where Choying Rangdrol is said to have practiced. The lineage is associated with Katok monastery.

Choying Rangdrol, the reincarnation of Drubtob Namkha Gyatso, was a well-known practitioner from Katok Monastery. His main student was the Second Katok Situ, Chokyi Lodro. He was the First Tsopu Drubchen.
