The Second Drime Zhingkyong, Jigme Rigdzin Gonpo (dri med zhing skyong 02 'jigs med rig 'dzin mgon po) was born in the late eighteenth century. He was recognized as the reincarnation of Gonpo Pel Chokyi Dorje (mgon po dpal chos kyi rdo rje, b. 1724), who was his father's uncle. He was brought to Katok Dorjeden (kaH thog rdo rje gdan) where he was enthroned by the First Getse Paṇchen, Gyurme Chokdrub (dge rtse paN chen 'gyur med mchog grub, 1761-1829).

There he studied under a number eminent teachers that included Getse Paṇchen, Chaktsa Ngedon Wangpo (phyag tsha nges don dbang po, d.u.), and the First Katok Situ, Orgyen Samdrub Jigme Chokyi Sengge (kaH thog si tu 01 o rgyan bsam grub 'jigs med chos kyi seng ge, 1775-1819). He studied both the kama (bka' ma) and terma (gter ma), in particular the treasure teachings of Rigdzin Dudul Dorje (rig 'dzin bdud 'dul rdo rje, 1615-1672) and Rigdzin Longsel Nyingpo (rig 'dzin klong gsal snying po, 1625-1692), receiving the related empowerments and transmissions. He then served as a teacher at the monastery.

The Fourth Dzogchen Drubwang, Mingyur Namkhai Dorje (rdzogs chen drub dbang 04 mi 'gyur nam mkha'i rdo rje, 1793-1870) was first among his disciples.

It can be assumed that he passed away in or before 1836, as Jigme Yonten Gonpo ('jigs med yon gtan mgon po, b. 1837), the son of his nephew, was identified as his reincarnation, the Third Drime Zhingkyong. The Drime Zhingkyong incarnation line was based at Katok Monastery (kaH thog dgon).

Samten Chhosphel earned his PhD from CIHTS in India where he served as the head of Publication Dept. for 26 years. He has a Master’s degree in Writing and Publishing from Emerson College, Boston. Currently he is an adjunct Assistant Professor at the City University of New York, and Language Associate in Columbia University, NY.
