The Ngenlam clan originated in the Ngenlam region in Uru Penyul Valley, north of Lhasa. Among its early sons were Takdra Lukong, who served the Tibetan empire in the eighth century, and Gyelwa Chokyang, a disciple of Padmasambhava and one of the first seven Tibetans to ordain.
