The Go clan dates from the imperial Yarlung period. The area they settled in is present-day Chingra in Chonggye Dzong, Lhokha in southern Tibet. During the Yarlung period, King Tri Songdetsen rewarded his minister Go Trizang Yablhak by giving him parts of Nyangto, Dringtsam, the present-day north-west Bhutan, up to the western portion of Lhodrak. The Go clan ruled over this area called Go Yulto Sum, the three upper lands of the Go. Go Lotsawa Zhonnu Pel was from this clan.
