Yabzhi Punkhang refers to the family members of the Eleventh Dalai Lama, Khedrub Gyatso. The custom of granting Yabzhi status to families of the Dalai Lamas began during the time of the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kelzang Gyatso. 1845, the Punkhang  estate near Trandruk in the Yarlung valley was granted to the ennobled family, and Kontse Tsewang Dondrub became the head of Yabzhi Punkhang, known also as Puntsok Khangsar. The Punkhang Manor House was the Lhasa residence of the family.
